Halfway through 2009!

A personal message from President 08/09 to all the members:

Dear members,

The board of directors of 2008/09 have been working hard to organise events that will benefit accounting and finance students in Taylor's Business School. I am really glad to have all of them through thick and thin thus far and I am proud to announce that the preparation work for all the remaining events in the second half of 2009 are now underway. Stay tuned!

Here, I would like to have a special mention on our upcoming

Annual General Meeting (AGM)

Date: 12 August 2009 (Wednesday)
Time: 2.30pm - 4.30 pm
Venue: 11.6, ADP Building

On this day, we will have an election of the board of directors. Approximately 90% of the current board of directors are stepping down because we wouldn't be able to serve for a full year if we were to be re-elected. Therefore, we need YOU to come, get yourself nominated or volunteered, and be elected to become the leaders of the club!
  1. It's really time to do something memorable in your university years, if you haven't already done so.
  2. It's also time to start knowing more people and expand your network. Meet your peers, seniors, juniors and lecturers.
  3. Grab the chance to rub shoulders with HR personnel of Big 4, the industry and the professional bodies. Such an excellent opportunity can only be found in this club!
  4. Learn how to organise events in a professional manner, how to lead a team or work in one (it's different from working for a group assigment!) , how to carry yourself in a meeting, while talking to working professionals or while dealing with members (read: strangers!) This is a chance to experience them all!

You don't need to possess all preset skills NOW to run the club but what we are looking for is the attitude and commitment to learn and contribute. I will be around till the end of the year, if ever my advice or guidance is needed.

Here is a list of events for your information:
(italicised events were organised successfully, bolded events are still in store for you, members!):
  • Mar - Recruitment Drive
  • Mar - Members Meeting/Orientation
  • May - Company Visit - PwC
  • June - Talk - GM of IKEA
  • Aug - Recruitment Drive
  • Aug 12 - AGM
  • Aug 14-16 - ONE Camp (with KPMG & CPA Australia)
  • Sep - Company Visit to Ernst & Young
  • Sep - Industrial Visit
  • Oct 8 - Accounting Day
  • Oct 10 - CPA Passport Leadership Conference
See you during AGM! =)

Cheers,
Chye Soon
President 08/09

PricewaterhouseCoopers Office Trip

ACCT_CLUB_-_FIELD_TRIP(print)

The Accounting Club will be organising a company trip to PricewaterhouseCoopers, one of the "Big 4" Accounting Firms.

Details on the trip :
Date : 5th May 2009
Time : 2.00 pm – 5.00 pm
Venue : PwC, One Sentral

The objectives of this trip are to :

To expose the working culture in PwC as it is one of the big four accounting firms. This will allow students to understand and prepare themselves to the working environment. Besides this will also serve as a good starting point for their future employment. Final year students are encouraged to bring along their resumes as well!

To introduce students about the operation, structure and policy of the company. This will enable students to fully understand the fundamental knowledge of the company. This will act as a good requirement when any one of the students applies for a career in PwC as he/she will have knowledge about the insight of the company.

To allow accounting club members to participate and gain some new experience of organizing a company trip. This will add their experience and teach them the formal procedure when engaging with the corporate people.

For more information on PwC, here's a link to their Malaysian website.

We’re proud to announce that we’ve received great response to this trip and all seats have been fully booked.

For further enquiries, you may contact Tee Kim Xiong at 012-9612132 or getsu88@hotmail.com

Looking forward to see you guys there!

On behalf of the board, I would like to express our gratitude to you for you presence in our first orientation two days ago. We hope that you had just as much fun as we had. =)
For those who missed out on the orientation, fret not because here is a summary of the key points that we mentioned during our Orientation (Just so that everyone knows what is happening!)

  1. There are two types of members: Junior Committee members (Active involvement in helping out) and Normal Members (Part of our mailing list so you will get first-hand update of any of our charter or CPA events).
  2. Normal members can become Junior Committee members just by e-mailing us! (E-mail to me at chyesoon89@hotmail.com, or Aaron, Vice President at looyuxun@yahoo.com)
  3. As most events in the first half of the year are already in "organising" stage led by the Board, JC members will only be called up to assist in organising events in the second half of the year, namely Teambuilding Camp (July) and Accounting Week (Oct). Although they are still a few months away, our preparation work is going to start soon!
  4. Those who signed up to become Junior Committee members will receive another e-mail from us soon once our event leaders are ready to communicate with you!

Also, you would have the chance to join in the committee and learn more through various learning curves provided, such as event-organising, trips, career fairs, camps, networking opportunities and so forth. In addition to that, we will be organising the Accounting Day and CPA Leadership Conference on a large-scale basis this year, and thus, we would need a strong committee to carry out these events.
